(KNSI) – A popular rest area along eastbound Interstate 94 between St. Cloud and the Twin Cities has closed for the first phase of a $2.9 million improvement project.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation shut down the Enfield rest area, between Wright County Road 8 in Hasty and Highway 25 in Monticello. The closure affects both passenger vehicles and commercial trucks as crews resurface the entrance and exit ramps and update sidewalk approaches.
The work will roll out in three stages. The rest area is scheduled to partially reopen the week of May 11th, when cars will again have access. The truck and trailer parking area will stay closed during that phase for concrete pavement updates. Then the week of June 30th, the setup flips, trucks and trailers will regain access while the auto parking lot is shut down for resurfacing. MnDOT expects the rest area to be fully open to all travelers in late July.
Eastbound drivers looking for alternatives during the closures can stop at the Big Spunk Lake rest area near Avon or continue east to the Elm Creek rest area near Maple Grove.
