(KNSI) — The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development announced St. Cloud State University is receiving part of a $2.5 million grant for schools that partner with businesses for customized workforce training programs.

St. Cloud-based Park Industries, which makes stone fabrication machinery, wants to build a workforce development system and is partnering with SCSU. The company says the goal is to train more employees, build leadership skills, improve customer service, and make the workplace safer.

SCSU will develop a training program with two parts. One focuses on organizational and workforce development, and the other on sales and customer service. Officials with DEED say classes will be offered in person or online, with hands-on practice and exercises built around real workplace situations.

According to DEED, the 14 workforce grants will train more than 2,000 workers.
