(KNSI) — Drivers saw another jump at the pump as tensions in the Middle East and other factors continue to squeeze supply.
According to AAA, on Monday, after weekend airstrikes by the U.S. and Israel on Iran, the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded was $2.98. Today, the price is up to $3.25. Statewide, the average went from $2.83 to $3.12. Locally, the average in St. Cloud went from $2.76 to $3.12.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration says there was a small dip in overall stockpiles because refineries didn’t replace all of what was consumed, slightly tightening the supply and, in turn, driving up prices. Another reason for the increase in demand is the start of the spring break travel season and the switchover to summer blends, which are more expensive to produce.
Bombings and uncertainty in the Middle East have sent crude oil prices to the mid-$70 a barrel range.
