(KNSI) — It appears as if mechanical failure was to blame for an accident Tuesday morning in Melrose Township.
According to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, a call came in just before 11:00 about the incident just north of the intersection of County Road 13 and County Road 17. The caller said they were driving southbound on County 13 when their 1985 International Straight Truck hauling soybeans began losing power. They said a smell of burning rubber filled the air as smoke filled the cab. The truck rolled backward, tipped over into the ditch, and caught fire.
The Melrose Fire Department responded and put out the fire. The 59-year-old truck driver from Grey Eagle was assessed by crews from Melrose Ambulance and did not appear to be injured.
