(KNSI) – Today is the first Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ first Free Park Day of 2026.

The DNR is waiving entrance fees at all 73 state parks and recreation areas as part of its Free Park Day program, which offers one fee-free day each season.

The closest parks to St. Cloud are Lake Maria State Park near Monticello and Charles A. Lindbergh State Park near Little Falls.

Visitors can enjoy activities such as sledding, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. Many parks offer snowshoe rentals, and select locations provide ski rentals. Monday marks the last day of Take A Kid Ice Fishing Weekend, which allows an adult to fish without a license if they are with someone under the age of 15.

For those looking for activities that don’t require snow, state parks offer opportunities for birding, wildlife watching, hiking, and nature photography.

The DNR’s ParkFinder tool can help visitors find specific recreational opportunities and rental equipment. Find it by clicking here.

The remaining Free Park Days for 2026 are Saturday, April 25th, Saturday, June 13th, and Friday, November 27th. The entrance fee waiver does not cover camping, lodging or equipment rentals.
