(KNSI) — Former St. Cloud area State Representative Zachary Dorholt is running for his old seat.

Dorholt, a Democrat, took to his Facebook page and announced his campaign for House District 14B, which includes portions of St. Cloud. In the announcement, he explains that there are many issues driving his decision to run and notes that, for now, he wants to be an active listener and community member who remains engaged on a personal level, holding conversations in person rather than on social media.

Dorholt was first elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2012, defeating Republican Representative King Banaian. Dorholt served as vice chair of the Higher Education Committee. He was defeated by Republican Jim Knoblach in 2014. He has served on the St. Cloud Area District 742 School Board since winning his seat in 2018 and being re-elected in 2022.

The seat is open as current DFL Representative Dan Wolgamott announced his campaign for State Auditor.

Dorholt attended St. Cloud State University, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in community development before earning his master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling. He also attended St. Mary’s University of Minnesota – Twin Cities for graduate school. Dorholt works for CentraCare in coordinated care and integrated behavioral health as a licensed professional clinical counselor.
