(KNSI) – Mother Nature’s perfect storm proved too much for Wednesday’s Summertime by George! headliner of the same name.
The St. Cloud Rotary announced in the noon hour that the weekly summer concert series would be canceled for this week. Summertime by George! attracts upwards of 20,000 people to Lake George and Eastman Park on the fringe of downtown St. Cloud.
The opening act was scheduled to start at 5:30, featuring an acoustic jam from Highway 23. The headliner was Janelle Kendall’s Perfect Storm, heavy on classic rock anthems done by legendary women singers like Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, Heart, Melissa Etheridge, and more.
A line of thunderstorms constantly regenerated across Stearns County, a phenomenon known as training. Areas were repeatedly hit hard, until as much as six inches of water had accumulated. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for cities like Albany, Avon, and Sartell.
Summertime by George! will be back on July 30th with the band Going to the Sun and headliner Xpedition.
