(KNSI) – A Dassel native will be part of the festivities in Minnesota for Duluth Navy Week.

The event runs from June 30th to July 6th and will feature Lieutenant Grant Hungerford. He graduated as a Charger from DC in 2004 before getting a bachelor’s degree from Crown College in 2009. Hungerford returned to school for nursing, where he earned a second bachelor’s degree and recently obtained a master’s degree from Duke University.

Hungerford had an interesting path to the United States Navy. He didn’t join until six years ago. He is assigned to Expeditionary Medical Facility Juliet, providing medical services in support of military operations.

He says, “I joined the Navy as a means of giving back.” Hungerford adds, “My family has a strong tradition of naval service, and it is an honor to be a commissioned officer in the Navy, as was my brother, father and uncle before me.”

Navy Week is back in Duluth for the fourth time ever.
