(KNSI) – The Albany High School Boys’ Basketball Team cruised through the Section 6AA bracket as they continue their quest for a second state title in three years.

The Huskies went 4-0 and won by an average margin of victory of over 40 points to clinch the top seed in the Class AA state tournament being played this week at Williams Arena in Minneapolis. Still undefeated, Albany will be the heavy favorite to take the crown.

They already boast a double-digit victory against #5 Minnehaha Academy during the regular season in a game that was heard on KNSI. Pelican Rapids is the seventh seed. Albany beat them twice as part of the Granite Ridge Conference schedule, including a 36-point massacre on Valentine’s Day.

At 29-0, the team is led offensively by guard Zeke Austin and forwards Ethan Meyer and Sam Hondl. All three players have experience in the state tournament. The quarterfinals are Tuesday, with the Huskies tipping off at 6:00 p.m. against Pelican Rapids. If they advance, the semifinals would be Friday night and the title game is slated for Saturday evening.

Albany is the only local boys’ squad to qualify for the state tournament. Both St. Cloud schools were eliminated by Fergus Falls in the 8AAA bracket. Sauk Rapids-Rice and Sartell fell in the first round of the 8AAAA sections.
