(KNSI) – St. Cloud will mark Veterans Day with a parade and ceremony to remember the men and women who served.

The route will run down West St. Germain Street at 11:00 on Monday. It will start at the St. Cloud Public Library and end at the River’s Edge Convention Center. That section of the road will be closed starting at 10:00 that morning and won’t reopen until 1:00 p.m.

Following the parade, there will be a Veteran’s Day ceremony at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center in the auditorium of Building 8. It starts at 1:30 in the afternoon.

According to the VA, the day was originally recognized in America as Armistice Day starting in 1926 through a congressional resolution. Similar congressional action 12 years later made it a national holiday. The first celebration using the term Veterans Day occurred in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1947.
