(KNSI) – Dozens of central Minnesota residents made the pilgrimage to Indianapolis for the 10th annual National Eucharistic Congress.

The event began in May when over 10,000 people started walking to the city carrying the Eucharist. On the way, the march stopped at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud. The congress is the first gathering of its kind in 83 years. Bishop Patrick Neary of the Diocese of St. Cloud called the event historic. “I mean, how many American Catholics have been to one of these national celebrations? And so we are so blessed, but you guys really are the base of Christ. You are his disciples as missionaries. With the joy you have, the example of your family lives, your faith and your commitment.”
He asked the Minnesota contingent to soak it all in. “You’re bringing Christ every day to people who maybe do not know him or do not know him well. So, my prayer for each of you is that you take away some particular grace that God wants you to have during your time here.”
He encouraged the flock to spread the good word when they go home. Bishop Neary prayed for those in attendance to focus on their spiritual growth and connections made at the conference. The NEC started on Thursday and wraps up on Sunday. For more on the event, click here.
