(KNSI) — Calling all nature lovers and young adventurers!
It’s Kids To Parks Day at Quarry Park this Saturday, May 18th, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Organized by the National Park Trust, the mission of Kids to Parks Day is to foster future outdoor enthusiasts and help develop the next generation of park stewards by engaging kids in memorable outdoor experiences. While discovering and exploring parks, kids learn about outdoor recreation, STEM, and amazing national treasures.
On Kids to Parks Day, kids can learn about upcoming park events, meet a Park Deputy, and kick off the 1000 Hour Outdoor Challenge. The challenge is a global initiative “to reclaim childhood and reconnect families.” It encourages parents and kids to swap screen time with outside time and spend literally 1,000 hours playing outdoors.
Attendees can take home a free tree sapling, check out the Lorax puppet show, and discover the wonders of the solar system with a special audio tour. Great River Greening will be on hand to teach kids how to protect pollinators; they can learn about aquatic creatures or test their fishing skills. Kids can even craft their own pinecone bird feeders.
Quarry Park is located at 1802 County Road 137 in Waite Park.
