(KNSI) – For the past couple of seasons, the Sartell duo of Tyler Hemmesch and Kade Lewis powered the Sabres to state tournament appearances on the diamond. Now, they hope to have the same championship-caliber success in the Northwoods League.
Lewis joined his former teammate in committing to play this summer for the St. Cloud Rox on Thursday. Unlike Hemmesch, Lewis is a position player and force at the dish. Currently a freshman at Butler University, he has brought the lumber to the collegiate level.
In 26 games, Lewis has torched pitchers for 32 RBIs while hitting .411. He has eight doubles and eight home runs. Last weekend, he went deep three times against Big Ten opponent Indiana University.
For Sartell, Lewis was a two-time All-State selection and a Minnesota Mr. Baseball finalist his senior year, when he slugged his way to a .505 average.
The Rox begin their season in late May, with the home opener slated for Friday, the 31st.
