(KNSI) – It’s sure to be a raucous time when one of the best rockabilly bands of all time takes the stage in Waite Park this summer.
The Stray Cats will strut their stuff at the Ledge Amphitheater on Friday, August 9th. They’ll be joined by The Midnight Cowgirls as an opening act.
The Stray Cats are led by Brian Setzer, and their debut album “Built For Speed” quickly found a home on the charts. It peaked at #2 in late 1982, part of an overall 40-week run. In addition to the “Stray Cat Strut,” the album also boasted the wildly popular “Rock This Town.”
Tickets are on sale to the general public this Friday. You can pick yours up online at Ticketmaster.com or at the Ledge Winter Box Office inside the Waite Park Public Works building at 670 17th Avenue South. A presale will be held online only on Thursday, starting at 10:00 a.m.
Rockabilly first began making waves in the early 1950s, leading the way for the broader rock and roll revolution to take over radio airwaves. It is defined by piano riffs, an upbeat rhythm, and a little vocal twang. It then faded into the background until the 1980s, when it was revived by the Stray Cats.
The band’s national tour features only four Midwest dates.
