(KNSI) – A woman in the right place at the right time to save a man’s life is honored for her heroic actions.
Heather Hubel-Coleman was presented with the City of Willmar Life Saving Citizen Award after the former Emergency Medical Technician noticed a man had collapsed on the ice in the middle of a hockey game on December 10th. Fifty-four-year-old Tim Rehn had stopped breathing and was in full cardiac arrest. According to the Willmar Police Department, within 19 seconds, Hubel-Coleman was at his side and started CPR while her daughter rushed to get an automated external defibrillator.
Following nearly four minutes of compressions and a shock from the AED, Rehn started breathing. Less than a minute later, first responders arrived, and Rehn regained consciousness.
He was taken to CentraCare – Rice Memorial Hospital and transferred to CentraCare Heart and Vascular Center in St. Cloud. According to medical staff, he suffered a heart attack with 100% blockage in one artery and 90% blockage in a second, requiring four stents.
In a show of appreciation, the Hubel-Coleman family was honored at a Minnesota Wild game on December 27th. She received the lifesaving award at a local game on February 13th.
