(KNSI) — Getting around in Sartell will be easier as crews reopen a reconstructed intersection known for a history of crashes.

The roundabout at County Highway 4 and County Highway 133 had been closed since early June. County officials say they tried several safety measures at the intersection, but engineers decided a roundabout was the next step.

Stearns County Engineer Jodi Teich says the roundabout will “certainly slow down traffic going through that intersection but it’ll also keep the traffic moving and virtually eliminate the possibility for those right-angle crashes.”

About half of the project was funded through the Highway Safety Improvement Program from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
