(KNSI) — Waite Park is looking at governing the use of drones across the city.
City Administrator Shaunna Johnson says the issues arose during a concert at The Ledge Amphitheater earlier this year. “We have had some private use of drones flying over that. It really prompted the need to maybe look at that. And for us, not only is it the artists that really don’t want to see that, but it creates a whole other level of concern.”
A person used a drone to fly into the concert venue and hovered about 100 feet over the audience.
Those who want to fly drones would need to apply for a permit. Violation would be a petty misdemeanor and could lead to the confiscation of the drone.
Johnson says she would anticipate that they would have a drone ordinance in place by the fall.
