(KNSI) – Metro Bus drivers were living in the fast lane during last weekend’s State Bus Roadeo.
David Peacock and Keith Drake finished 1st and 2nd in the Small Bus Division. Julie Dockendorf took 2nd in the Large Bus Division. Peacock was also awarded the Duane Dufner Memorial Award, which is voted on by fellow drivers. It is reserved for the person who was most helpful to colleagues during the event.
Dockendorf has been a driver for 43 years and this was her first opportunity at state. She has been with Metro Bus for over three decades. She finished behind Chris Daniels, who works for Rochester Public Transit. He has won the state roadeo several times on top of having the home course advantage.
The 36th annual competition was held in Rochester at the local community college. It is an important part of Minnesota’s long history with the events. The Metro Transit bus roadeo is the oldest in the country. The format was picked up by the American Public Transportation Association in 1976 and there is now an international competition.
This weekend’s winners will vie for best in the world next spring in Portland, Oregon.
