(KNSI) – Traffic is again flowing on 3rd Street South in Waite Park after a digging project ruptured a gas line. Several popular businesses in Waite Park were evacuated on Thursday.

Aldi, PetSmart, St. Cloud Toyota, and other retail stores and restaurants between 2nd Avenue South and 6th Avenue South were included. Nearby homes and apartments were cleared as well. The public is being asked to stay out of the area until repairs are made.

The pipe was hit during a digging project near the Park Villa Apartments, according to a press release from Waite Park. Xcel Energy crews are on the scene to make repairs. It’s unknown how long it will take to make repairs.

City officials say in a Facebook post that more updates will be forthcoming when the area is reopened. No estimated time for a fix has been given.
