(KNSI) – Bremer Bank celebrated the start of construction for its new location in downtown St. Cloud. The redevelopment is called Highbanks Plaza.
The two-story, 20,000-square-foot facility is rising out of the ground where the former city hall stood at the corner of Division Street and 5th Avenue South.
Bremer Bank St. Cloud Region President Thad Olsen says they’ve been in the community for 100 years and could have moved anywhere but decided to stay here.
“St. Cloud is the heart of the state and this location is the heart of our downtown. It’s the artery that connects CentraCare. It connects St. Cloud State University and they’re so important to our community. And then in the other directions, we’re the connection between the Twin Cities and lakes country. This is where you want to be. We want to be in the heartbeat of the community.”
Olsen described the new facility.
“It’s going to have an open concept to it. It is going to be very welcoming. A modern structure where you walk in and it’s not going to be tellers behind the line, we’re going to be greeting customers and we will be very open, very friendly, and we love to have people coming in.”
Developers say the brick building will blend with the downtown facade. The project will cost around $8 million.
Bremer hopes to move into the new location in the fall of 2023. Bremer is moving from its place at 1100 West St Germain Street. Granite Partners is moving into the old Bremer building.
