(KNSI) — A new program to help teach kids through nature is launching in central Minnesota.
Avon Hills Folk School is starting a local TimberNook program. Parents can learn about the program from founder Angela Hanscom on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at St. John’s Preparatory School in the Weber Center.
Avon Hills Folk School Executive Director Chris Schellinger says TimberNook is different because it’s a child-led play experience in the outdoors and gives them a chance to explore not just nature.
“Their creativity, their interpersonal skills, communication skills, it’s really opportunities and experiences that kids are increasingly finding more difficult to have these days.”
He says the program uses the outdoors to open a kid’s eyes to the world around them.
“It sounds overly simplistic but I think that is in fact the complexity of it is that the kids are given the time and the space to just be kids. They’re really given the freedom to just explore.”
Admission is free. You can register in advance or show up at the door. For more information or to register, click here.
