(KNSI) – The Wright County Commissioners approved redrawing districts for the next decade at a Tuesday meeting. The body had the option to leave boundaries as they were, but the motion fell 3-2. If it had been kept, the difference in population between District Three and District Two would have been over 2,000 people.

Instead, a new map was adopted which limits the difference to only 800 people. It affects Districts Three and Four mostly, pushing Albertville into the same zone as Otsego. St. Michael will be entirely in District Four, rather than only two precincts.

The changes are enough to force a special election in District Four, forcing Commissioner Mary Wetter to run after only two years in her seat. In District Three, incumbent Mark Daleiden already announced that he would not run again. That election was previously scheduled for November.

District One continues to wind through the heart of the county from South Haven to Buffalo. District Two is the north-central section, including Clearwater and Monticello. District Five includes most of the southern half of Wright County. District Four stretches from Rockford Township to Saint Michael. District Three is the extreme northeast corner, including Albertville and Otsego.
