(KNSI) — A suspect wanted in connection to a deadly road rage shooting on Easter is in custody.
Police say everything began as a driving incident near St. Cloud and continued for over 40 miles with the suspect and the victim having several interactions along the way. The two cars ended up in Maple Grove near the intersection of County Road 30 and Garland Lane where a witness says a person in one vehicle shot at another and both cars fled the scene.
A press release from Maple Grove police says the 30-year-old suspect turned himself in. He was booked into the Hennepin County jail where he is awaiting formal charges. The investigation is still ongoing.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified the victim as 61-year-old William Haire of Buffalo. After the shooting, police found Haire in his car off Interstate 94 and Maple Grove Parkway. He was taken to North Memorial Medical Center, where he died from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public. Investigators ask anyone who may have seen what happened or who has any information about the case to call 763-494-6246.
