(KNSI) – Waite Park is eyeing improvements to The Ledge Amphitheater and is asking the state legislature to help out.

The city of Waite Park is asking the Minnesota State Legislature for $8 million in bonding money for improvements to the theater.

Mayor Rick Miller tells KNSI the money, matched by the city, will ease some headaches in the nearly-new facility.

“We’re looking to build another set of restrooms. So we don’t have to have porta-potties out there during performances. We’re looking to add a kitchen area where they can cook the hamburgers and stuff. And we do need parking. We knew that when we built it. Everybody knew it. We do have an opportunity now to buy the land. So we’re looking to get bonding money to build that parking lot and to put lights and pavement in it.”

Miller said the parking lot, once completed, will be able to handle parking at the largest events at the amphitheater. The request is currently making its way through the legislative bonding process.
