(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has posted over 200 summer internships.
Becky Keller, a human resource generalist with the Minnesota DNR, tells KNSI the summer interns get paid to earn academic credit.
“All of our positions are paid $15 an hour. Interns do need to be students, so they have to either get academic credit or be fulfilling some sort of academic requirement through their school.”
Keller says over 200 internships are available, in several different departments.
“There’s a lot of different areas our interns cover, fisheries, forestry, parks and trails, watercraft inspectors, you name it. If you think about it, our fisheries would do habitat surveys and work with invasive carp, river monitoring, hatchery operations, things like that. We have over 45 watercraft inspectors. They work at our boat launches, they educate the public about the threat of aquatic invasive species, they inspect our boats to make sure they’re free from invasive species, conduct surveys with the public, and tell us why those invasive species are so harmful.”
While most summer interns have a background in natural resources, Keller says it’s not always required.
“If you think about those watercraft inspectors talking to the public, a communications intern would be a great candidate for something like that.”
Interested students should start by searching for open internships at the MN DNR’s website.
