(KNSI) – St. Cloud has purchased Clark Field for $1 from District 742. The St. Cloud City Council unanimously approved buying the field during Monday’s city council meeting.

Mayor Dave Kleis says St. Cloud plans to use the field as green space. He said the press box would be taken down by the group Friends of Clark Field. The organization has been working to preserve the field after St. Cloud closed the facility due to deteriorating conditions nearly a decade ago. The city plans to use the field as green space for youth athletics and community events.

Kleis says the school district and Friends of Clark Field will pay for required repairs to the facility. He said the city would only be responsible for maintaining the grass.

The purchase of Clark Field was announced during the mayor’s state of the city address in May. The field was used by St. Cloud Tech High School’s football program.
