(KNSI) – St. Cloud officials say city services won’t skip a beat during the move to the old Tech High School, currently under renovation, before the end of the year. St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis says the city has a plan in place.
“We’ve got all the movers and everything set up. We’re going to do it in a way that is not disruptive to you. Everything you can do online, you’ll continue to do online. We’re going to move over in December in phases so that there’ll be no interruption of services.”
Kleis says the new city hall is designed to be customer service oriented. Kleis says keeping the original 1917 parts of the building was important to the community.
“I know the neighborhood is happy about it. I know the folks that have gone to Tech High School during that 100-year-period are happy. We’re preserving the history, and I think you’ll like it.”
The city is repurposing the old Tech High School and turning it into city hall. Voters approved building a new Tech High School, which opened in 2019.
The current city hall has millions of dollars in needed upgrades.
In April, St. Cloud agreed with Minneapolis-based developer Frauenshuh Commercial Real Estate to purchase the current city hall property. Redevelopment plans include offices and restaurants, with construction starting in 2022.
