(KNSI) — A 4.25% property tax levy is part of the new proposed Stearns County 2022 budget.
The Board of Commissioners discussed that and other budget items at its regularly scheduled meeting this week.
The move would cause a decrease of about half a percent in the tax rate as the tax capacity is going up by about 4.8%—other items in the budget include an increase in spending by roughly $13.8 million. The board says the increases will mostly go toward elections, employee costs, and just over $6.5 million is earmarked for highway construction.
The preliminary budget is expected to be approved at the board’s September 24th meeting. A Truth in Taxation meeting is coming up in November when the proposed tax levy will be discussed. The levy and final budget will be approved on December 14th.
