(KNSI) – A Sartell man faces several charges after allegedly fleeing from police three times in three days.
Jason William Schwieger has been charged with 11 crimes, including stalking, assault, theft of a motor vehicle, child endangerment, and fleeing police.
Last Thursday, police were called to Snap Fitness in Sartell, where Schwieger was parked. According to the criminal complaint, the 36-year-old’s driver’s license is revoked, and there were two children in the car. Police say Schwieger was speeding as he drove past an officer and refused to pull over. The chase lasted more than two miles through Sartell before police ended the pursuit for safety reasons after seeing children in the car.
On Friday, officers attempted to arrest Schwieger during a pre-arranged custody exchange in the parking lot of Family Dollar in Sartell. According to a second criminal complaint, he allegedly jumped into someone else’s vehicle when he saw police. He drove away and reportedly tried to hit a car holding the two children and three adults involved in the exchange. After a brief pursuit and watching the vehicle weave in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed, police ended the chase due to safety concerns.
On Saturday, police got a tip that Schwieger was in a vehicle at his home in Sartell and parked a squad car to block him in. Schwieger then allegedly moved climbed from the back seat into the front seat and started the car. Investigators say he backed into a police car, maneuvered out of the yard past the officers, and fled.
Officers say they followed Schwieger onto Highway 15 and Division Street, where he allegedly drove 70 mph and failed to stop at multiple red lights. Police ended the chase after 17 miles because he was getting near the Benton County Fair. Police eventually found Schwieger and arrested him on Sunday.
He made his first court appearance on Tuesday on all 11 charges. Schwieger has been charged with fleeing police, two counts of child endangerment, stalking, two counts of threats of violence, theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing police, and two counts of domestic assault against a child.
He is due back in court in September.
