(KNSI) – Apple Valley native and NCAA championship wrestler Gable Steveson has captured gold in Tokyo.

Steveson, who competed in the 125-kilogram freestyle wrestling event, pulled it out at the very last few seconds to take the top spot on the podium. Steveson, trailing by three points with ten seconds left on the clock, pulled out a pair of takedowns in the last moments of the match, including his final takedown, which was called as the buzzer sounded. That propelled him to victory over his opponent from the Republic of Georgia, Geno Petriashvili. Watch the final 47 seconds of the match by clicking here.

Petriashvili is the reigning world champion and 2016 Olympic bronze medal winner.

Steveson graduated from Apple Valley High School. Steveson now wrestles for the University of Minnesota, winning the NCAA Division I wrestling championship this season.

Steveson, whose full name is Gable Dan Steveson, was named after Dan Gable, a two-time NCAA Division I champion wrestler for Iowa State University and Olympic champion wrestler, winning gold in 1972.
