(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Fire Department was called to two separate lightning-related fires within minutes of each other Wednesday morning as thunderstorms swept through the area.
The St. Cloud Fire Department says the first fire was called in at 7:04 a.m. in the 1900 block of 40th Street South. A critical incident report says the home’s antenna tower was hit by a lightning strike, causing damage to the electrical system in the house and siding.
Crews turned off the system at the main breaker and checked the home for extension. A small fire was found inside a wall on the opposite end of the house and was quickly put out.
Damage is estimated at $15,000.
The other fire was called in just a few minutes later, at 7:13 a.m. on the 1300 block of 15th Street North. The report says a second floor balcony was hit by lightning, charring the deck and damaging the patio door. Crews checked for fire extension into other areas of the building but found none.
Damage was estimated at $1000.
No one was hurt in either case.
