(KNSI) – A long-anticipated entertainment venue in Waite Park will be open to the public Tuesday evening for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house.
The Ledge Amphitheater‘s ribbon cutting is at 5 p.m., followed by the open house until 8 p.m.
The amphitheater holds around 6,000 people for concerts, comedians, movies in the park, vendor shows, community events, and more.
The first concert is scheduled for Friday and features The Rock Gods, a Tribute to Rock and Roll’s Most Iconic Stars including Van Halen, Def Leppard, Guns N’ Roses, Bon Jovi, Ozzy, Kiss, AC/DC, Alice Cooper, Motley Crue, Poison and more.
Other upcoming concerts include The Beach Boys, Dropkick Murphys and Rancid, 311, and the play Cinderella presented by the Great Theatre.
The Ledge is built on a 25-acre quarry site once operated by Martin Marietta.
The venue is between two quarries and features a wooded walking path south of the park overlooking the main Transformer Quarry.
Planning for the project started in 2015.
Construction began in June 2019, and the amphitheater was initially set to open in June of 2020, that was until the pandemic.
The total cost for the amphitheater was around $11 million.
The Ledge was paid for by $5 million in state bonding from the state Legislature in May 2018.
The rest was covered by a local-option sales tax and the city’s street/utility funds.
