(KNSI) – The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting Sunday morning.
Police say an officer from the Olivia Police Department, who was reportedly off-duty at the time, was “confronted by an armed individual” in an alley about 2:20 a.m.
Family and friends have identified that person as 32-year-old Ricardo Torres, Junior. His cousin, Jessica Laro, says Torres would never confront a police officer. A woman named Natasha Lindner told reporters Torres is the father of a nine-month-old baby and that the two of them had been together for about four years. She says Torres was known to carry a pellet gun and questioned the police officer’s account of what happened.
After Torres was shot, he was taken to Olivia Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The officer has been placed on administrative leave.
