St. Cloud Genealogy Program Shows How AI Can Uncover Stories in Old Family Photos

(KNSI) – If you’ve got a box of old family photos and no idea who’s in them, the St. Cloud Area Genealogists have a program for you.

The group is hosting “My Mystery Ancestor, Researching Old Photos with AI and a Photo Detective” on Tuesday, November 17th, at 6:00 p.m. Area residents can watch from home or gather with others at the Whitney Senior Center at 1527 Northway Drive in St. Cloud. You don’t need to be a senior center member to attend.

The presentation will cover how to use artificial intelligence and photo detective work to figure out who is in old pictures and what was happening in their lives.

Presenter Jay Davidson will walk through how he used those tools to research his own ancestor, a 19th century Pennsylvania folk artist, and turned that work into a book.

The program is free for St. Cloud Area Genealogists members and $7 for everyone else. Nonmembers can pay at the door or buy online access through the group’s website. A yearly individual membership costs $25.

The St. Cloud Area Genealogists has been helping local people trace their family history since 1973. The nonprofit welcomes everyone from beginners to experienced researchers, and its members dig into family roots in Minnesota, across the country and overseas.
