(KNSI) – While it’s a treat to have your child return home on Halloween with your favorite candy, it’s really no trick to have them come home safely.

Lieutenant Luke Dingmann from the St. Cloud police department shares some of the main areas of Halloween safety concern, “We know kids get excited and they run around. We want to make sure they don’t run out in front of any vehicles or if you are crossing the street, that vehicles are able to see you and you’re able to have visual contact so they know you are going across the street.”

Officials also recommend reflective tape or glow sticks and to travel only in familiar, well-lit areas and stick with their friends for a happy and candy filled night. Checking over the candy before the feast is important, too. Dingmann adds, “Dad’s just gotta make sure it tastes good so that’s where that dad tax comes in.”
