(KNSI) – King’s Academy in Waite Park will host a Freedom Flight POW/MIA hot air balloon launch Thursday afternoon.

A handful of King’s Academy students will get to ride in the balloon, an experience they earned through the school’s fundraising efforts last fall.

Freedom Flight is a volunteer organization based in St. Cloud and Idaho. Its team includes both veterans and non-veterans, and travels the country to honor the service members left behind and the families still waiting for their return. The group says its mission is to keep awareness alive and make sure the stories of POW/MIA service members are never forgotten.

The launch offers a visual tribute for the community and a chance to learn more about Freedom Flight’s ongoing work.

The community event begins at 3:30 p.m. in the school’s parking lot.
