Highway 15 Bridge Work Starts in Sauk Rapids; Detours Coming in 2027

(KNSI) – Prep work starts next week on a Highway 15 bridge replacement in Sauk Rapids that will bring detours to the area next year.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation begins Monday, October 5th, with about three weeks of work realigning the right-turn lane at Benton County Road 29. MnDOT expects minimal traffic impacts this fall, weather permitting.

The main work begins in spring 2027, when crews will replace the northbound Highway 15 bridge over eastbound Highway 10. The $6.6 million project also includes smoother pavement leading up to the bridge and new guardrail.

Once that work starts, drivers should plan on lane, shoulder and access closures around the interchange, along with nighttime detours using the County Road 29 and Highway 10 interchange.

Northbound Highway 15 drivers headed for westbound Highway 10 will be routed east on County Road 29. Eastbound Highway 10 traffic will exit to southbound Highway 15, then follow County Road 29 east to get back on Highway 10. Fourth Avenue access to and from County Road 29 will also close; MnDOT recommends 18th Avenue North as an alternate route.

Redstone Construction is the prime contractor. The project is expected to wrap up in fall 2027.
