(KNSI) – A stretch of the Lake Wobegon Trail will be shut down on Friday, August 28th, while crews seal coat the pavement.
The Stearns County Parks Department says the day-long closure runs between Freeport and Albany.
Seal coating is routine maintenance on paved trails. It locks out water and slows cracking, stretching the life of the surface before it has to be rebuilt.
Cyclists and walkers heading that direction on Friday will need to detour onto local roads or pick a different stretch of trail.
The Lake Wobegon Trail is one of central Minnesota’s best-known recreation corridors. The paved trail runs 65 miles and is 10 feet wide end to end, open to walkers, bikers, rollerbladers and snowmobilers. It stretches from Waite Park west to Osakis, with an extension running northeast from Albany to Holdingford and the Stearns and Morrison county line. Stearns County Parks maintains the trail, which takes its name from the fictional town in Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion.”
