(KNSI) – Showing animals at the Minnesota State Fair is a big part of the 4H experience. It can be a family affair, too. Hazel from Clearwater will get her first turn showing chickens this year. She was inspired by her mom, Karen’s, experience with horses at the fair years ago.

Hazel says paying close attention and spending time with her animals is important. The right name could be a key to success, too, “I really just name the ones that go to the fair and the ones this year are named Chili and Peppers, but I like to call them Red Hot Chili Peppers.”

Nearly 4000 animals are shown by 4H’ers at the fair each year. The Great Minnesota Get Together starts Thursday and runs through Labor Day.
