(KNSI) — The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Monday across much of Minnesota and Wisconsin.
High temps in the low 90s and dewpoints in the mid-70s are expected to push heat index values into the triple digits across the warning area.
Officials are urging residents to drink plenty of water throughout the day, remain in air-conditioned spaces when possible, stay indoors during peak heat hours, monitor the well-being of relatives, neighbors, and vulnerable friends, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.
For those who must spend time outdoors, wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing, limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours, take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas, and recognize the warning signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Watch for symptoms of heat exhaustion, including heavy sweating, weakness, nausea, headache, and dizziness. Heat stroke, a more serious condition, may present with high body temperature, altered mental state, hot and dry skin, and rapid pulse. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.
