(KNSI) – Stearns County’s Household Hazardous Waste truck will be in Sauk Centre this week, collecting items that can’t be thrown in the garbage.

The truck stops at the hockey arena at 818 Centre Street from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13th.

The truck takes in environmentally hazardous products such as adhesives, aerosols, automotive fluids, batteries, car seats, Christmas lights, cleaners, fluorescent bulbs, fuels, garden chemicals, lead tackle, mercury, mothballs, old ammunition, paints, pesticides, poisons, pool chemicals, roofing tar, sealers, sharps, solvents, and stains.

Items not accepted include used antifreeze, appliances, explosives, furniture, household garbage, medical waste, motor oil, tires, unknown products, or any business waste. The program is designed for household products only.

See the full list here.

Disposal is free and open to Stearns County households only through the county’s Environmental Services Department.

For those who can’t make it to a mobile event, the Waite Park facility accepts waste year-round.

The program processes up to 500,000 pounds of regulated waste and 100,000 fluorescent bulbs each year, collected from up to 10,000 households.
