A Morrison County court has sentenced Erik Adrian Blanco to 39 years in prison for the murder of a 14-month-old girl. Blanco was convicted of second-degree felony murder and first-degree manslaughter following a trial earlier this year.
Officers originally responded to a Little Falls residence July 6, 2023, where a toddler in Blanco’s care was found unresponsive. The child, who had significant facial bruising and abrasions on her neck, was transported to a hospital, where efforts to revive her were unsuccessful. A subsequent autopsy revealed blunt force trauma, asphyxial injuries, multiple hemorrhages and a skull fracture as the causes of death.
At trial, the jury found that Blanco knowingly abused his position of authority over the victim due to her age and vulnerability. Attorney General Keith Ellison noted it to be one of the most appalling and tragic cases his office had ever prosecuted.
“I am grateful to everyone who helped ensure Erik Blanco faced justice for his crimes, and I will continue to do everything I can to uphold the rule of law and hold those who harm their fellow Minnesotans accountable,” said Ellison.
