(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says Trooper Mollie McClure died in an accident on Waubay Lake in South Dakota.
It happened on Sunday, June 29th, when she was off duty. No additional details have been released.
McClure joined the State Patrol in October 2021. In June 2023, she gained national attention when a video of her rescuing a fawn trapped in a fence near Avon went viral.
According to a press release, McClure made significant contributions throughout her career. She trained academy cadets, served as a peer counselor, and took part in a workgroup aimed at increasing the number of female troopers. She was also a beloved presence at recruiting events, known for her ability to connect with people.
The Minnesota State Patrol has extended its heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and fellow officers. The family has asked for privacy as they grieve.
