(KNSI) – Pizza and the Midwest just go together, and Minnesota restaurants are no exception.

Review site Yelp has released its top 100 list for Midwest pies, with seven coming from the state. It’s no small feat to best Chicago deep dish or Detroit-style squares, but the Twin Cities have succeeded in carving out a niche of their own.

Young Joni of Minneapolis is the best performer at #25. Nipping at its heels was St. Paul’s Mama’s Pizza at #27. Boludo is the last Minnesota place to make the Top 50. The 39th entry is known for a unique southern European menu highlighted by pizza and empanadas.

The four other restaurants recognized are clustered in the 80’s. They’re listed below.

#80 – Pizzeria Lola (Minneapolis)
#82 – Brianno’s Deli – Italia (Eagan)
#87 – Element Wood Fire Pizza (Minneapolis)
#89 – Tono Pizzeria + Cheesesteaks (Maplewood)

No Greater Minnesota locations were included.

Chicagoland fared the best with 15 selections. Metro Detroit came in second at nine but had the top-ranked joint. If you are looking to make a pizza pilgrimage for the top slice, head to Loui’s in Hazel Park, Michigan.
