(KNSI) – For a decade now, east St. Cloud has been brightened by a one-day lemonade sale to help raise money to support back-to-school shopping for needy kids.

The stand was once again open for business on Monday on Wilson Avenue, just south of Highway 23. Anders Olson and Emil Kacy are elementary students. About four years ago, they took over for their older cousins. They tell KNSI News they were eager to do it when asked by their grandparents.

Olson says, “We really wanted to do it because it seemed like fun, and we really wanted to help kids.”

Olson is from Boston, Massachusetts, and Kacy lives in Minneapolis, but they are drawn to the area by their grandparents. The grandmother sews 100 backpacks a year, which are then donated to Lutheran World Services. The lemonade sale helps to fill them with supplies that will be needed in the classroom.

The boys talked about what they like most about the experience. Olson says, “We like seeing the people go by and we like waving to them.”

Kacy added, “[And] meeting new people.”

Olson exclaimed, “[We] feel the joy when they come up to our lemonade stand.”

The stand was open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday only. It typically raises about $400 each year.
