(KNSI) – Cold Spring City Council will focus on public safety at Wednesday’s meeting.
Members will consider renewing the joint policing agreement with Richmond. The proposed base charge is $294,999. It is based on the annual population report prepared by the Minnesota State Demographer in April. Richmond is estimated at 1,485 with Cold Spring tracked at 4,225 people. Richmond would be responsible for 26% of the police department’s general fund operating expenses.
The agreement would be revisited every five years. Payments are made quarterly by Richmond to Cold Spring. Terms reset each year using the population formula already in place.
The council will also look at approving a school resource officer for the ROCORI district. The position would work 40 hours per week. As far as when they would be at each building, that will determined by a contract signed between the district and the police department. District 750 would pay 75% of the SRO’s annual salary and benefits.
The council will accept the resignation of two firefighters, reducing the rolls to 25 members. The department is budgeted for 30, so they are asking for the right to begin advertising to help fill as many as five slots.
The meeting starts at 5:00 p.m.
