(KNSI) — Another candidate has declared their intention to run for Mayor of St. Cloud.

Anne Buckvold announced her candidacy over the weekend with a kickoff at the Great River Regional Library. She joins St. Cloud City Councilwoman Carol Lewis, who declared her candidacy last month just a few days after Mayor Dave Kleis said he was not running for reelection.

According to Buckvold’s campaign website, if elected, her “focus four” will be making transportation, housing, education/employment and economic vibrancy accessible for everyone. “A healthy community requires the fundamentals of transportation infrastructure, sufficient variety of housing options, opportunities for people of all ages to learn, work and develop professional careers, which naturally lend to a more robust and growing economy and is necessary for a community to thrive.”

Buckvold was born and raised in Minnesota and was gone for ten years living abroad and in other states after high school, but returned in 2006, first in Sauk Rapids and then St. Joseph, where she served on the city council before moving to St. Cloud. She is a mother of four who all attend school in District 742. Buckvold served previously on the Stearns County Human Services Advisory Council, the Metrobus Advisory Board, and the St. Joseph Park Board and has written a newspaper column for the last three years. She was an organizer for four years advocating for extending the Northstar rail line to St. Cloud and also ran for the Minnesota House in District 13A.

The official filing period opens on May 21st.
