(KNSI) – A 19-year-old accused of shooting a Minneapolis police officer pleaded guilty on Monday.

In August 2023, an officer was on patrol in an unmarked car when he noticed a Chevy Equinox that had been reported stolen. The vehicle was then allegedly used in a robbery and had fled from Brooklyn Park and Minneapolis police.

The officer said he followed the driver, and after about eight blocks, he lost sight of him. When he reestablished contact, he noticed the vehicle parked with its lights off, then described hearing gunshots and seeing muzzle flashes, believing he was being shot at from two directions. He suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the right shoulder.

The investigation led police to Fredrick Leon Davis, who pleaded guilty on Monday to one count of attempted second-degree murder. He is facing anywhere between ten and 13 years in prison. Davis is scheduled to be sentenced on May 16th.

At least one other person is facing charges connected to the incident. Their case is still making its way through the courts.
