(KNSI) – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Benton, Sherburne, and Stearns Counties, in effect from 7:00 p.m. Thursday to 10:00 a.m. Friday.
The National Weather Service says we could see as much as three to five inches of snow during the period. That will lead to slippery road conditions and impact the Friday morning commute.
Winter Weather Advisories are put out by the Twin Cities office in Chanhassen when less than six inches of snow is expected in a twelve hour period or eight inches in a given day. The office says to expect difficult travel conditions.
The heaviest bands will likely be in Stearns County north of Interstate 94. Localized accumulations could be higher there than the 3-5″ range given for the region as a whole.
As we have gotten through an entire winter without a significant storm, remember to give snow plows plenty of space if they need to be activated. It is generally suggested that you stay at least 200 feet behind a truck while it is working.
It might be wise to go through your winter car emergency roadside kit as well. Make sure flashlights and other equipment are working, and any food supplies you typically keep on hand should be checked to ensure they are not expired.
