(KNSI) – The Greater St. Cloud Public Safety Foundation is accepting applications from area college and high school students for a scholarship.
The award amounts to $2,000, and several will be handed out this spring. If you are studying in Benton, Sherburne, or Stearns County, are at least a senior in high school, have a GPA above 2.5, and are studying criminal justice or are enrolled in a two or four-year program for another first responder job such as firefighter or EMT, you are eligible.
Each application should include an electronic transcript. For high schoolers, write in the email address for the guidance office, and a counselor will add it for you. That process usually takes about five days, so plan accordingly.
You will also need to write an essay, two to three paragraphs long, on why you want to have a career in public safety. A list of your community service projects, extracurricular school activities, and work experience is the final component of the application.
Everything is due by March 1st. Recipients will be told in early May via email. In June, the chosen students will officially sign an agreement to receive the money. Colleges are paid in September.
